A recently established glass and glazing manufacturer has flown in the face of difficult economic conditions, particularly within the construction sector, to celebrate a successful first full year of trading since opening its doors last April.
M5 Glass Centre, based on the Walrow Industrial Estate in Highbridge, manufactures and supplies a wide range of glass, mirror and glazing products, most of which can be produced on site. This includes energy efficient double and triple glazed sealed units, toughened safety glass as well as a host of glass and mirror products that can be cut, polished, drilled, shaped and bevelled as required. The company supplies, and can install if required, these products to domestic and trade customers.
The new business is part of a large South West family owned company which operates 14 glass and glazing outlets at locations throughout the region. M5 Glass Centre was established after an agreement was made to buy the assets and building from the administrators of Hill Leigh Glazing, who had traded for many years from the site but had become a casualty of the recession and ceased trading during 2011. Fortunately some of the skilled ex-Hill Leigh staff were able to be employed, with a total of 7 new jobs being created in the new concern.
Establishing M5 Glass Centre involved a significant investment of over £1million. The investment included purchasing the assets and property as well as refurbishing the building, creating a new showroom area and acquiring new cutting edge glass process machinery, production software and delivery vehicles to service the ever expanding trade customer base.
During a busy first year in business M5 Glass Centre has gone from strength to strength, with production increasing month on month along with an ever growing trade and domestic customer base both locally and further afield. A further 4 new members of staff have joined during the last year as demand has grown and it’s envisaged that further new jobs will be created in the coming year.
Comment from Paul Garrard. Director at M5 Glass Centre “We’ve had a really demanding but very rewarding first year, our team have worked tirelessly to make this new venture a success and we are looking forward to further increasing our sales, building on our success to date which is very much developed on offering our customers top quality products backed with excellent customer service”.
Mr Garrard added that plans are in place to invest in further in house production capabilities which will enable to company to offer an even wider range of products and services. This will include the ability to produce oversized double and tripled glazed sealed units, silicone edged sealed units and glass painting facilities to enable the production of bespoke glass splashbacks, worktops and cladding panels.
