Shopfront Replacement
Since it’s relocation from Drake Circus to Cornwall Street in the city centre earlier this year, HMV Plymouth was, like so many businesses, temporarily closed during the Covid-19 lockdown. Thankfully open for business once again they have subsequently sustained two badly damaged shopfront glass panels.
Our nearby Cornwall Glass Plymouth branch were able to replace both damaged panels after obtaining a special permit to allow works to be undertaken directly outside the premises. Due to the nature of the works this was executed as an ‘out of hours’ installation.
Removal of the broken glass panels was undertaken with great care to keep them intact, even though the laminated glass had done its job and held the broken glass panel together to prevent injury. With each replacement glass panel weighing in excess of 166 kilos it was a minimum six person operation. After being expertly fitted by the Plymouth glazing team the finishing touch of two rows of dot window manifestations were added and the shopfront was once again secure and looked inviting ready to welcome customers.

Blown Unit Replacement
Often the frames that surround your window glass are still serviceable but the glass unit may have misted or clouded over time. This occurs when the seal around an air or gas filled, glass unit brakes or fails and condensation inside the unit accumulates. The result of this unsightly cloudiness, may affect the insulation properties of your window glass and in some cases, it can even make or break a house sale.
An affordable solution to this may be a replacement glass unit.
Our Penryn branch recently replaced blown double glazed units, mounted in wooden casement and sash frames at property in Cornwall.
The before and after images clearly show the difference that replacement glass units can make to overall appearance of the window.
Cornwall Glass offers a full glazing service for replacement double and single glazed windows for all frame types including; wood, aluminium and uPVC. We even provide slimline units that offer a sympathetic solution for some traditional single glazing in listed and conservation area properties as part of our Heritage Glass Units range.

Budock Vean Hotel
The dining room at Budock Vean Hotel is almost unrecognisable having undergone a transformation from busy room with dark and dated furnishing to a fresh, light and airy space with modern chic fixtures and fittings.
Muted colours and wooden flooring have been used in this large characterful room with consideration to the original design of the property. The carefully chosen furniture and accessories sit alongside some of the precious heritage pieces from this old manor house. All of this is quietly complimented by the stunning glass balustrade above the original, stone fireplace.
The dark wooden railing has been replaced with base shoe fixings, concreted into floor channels, with three pieces of toughened, laminated glass* carefully put into place. A simple, solid wood handrail makes a beautiful finishing touch and adds to the overall safety.
*When fitting balustrade glass we will always advise on the safest options for you individual installation.

Bristol Conversion
Alongside the imagination and expertise of Blue Sky Building Cornwall Glass Bristol worked to create an attractive, welcoming yet functional entrance as part of the conversion of an old office building into retirement apartments.
The popularity of building conversions is still a viable option for many construction firms especially within inner cities. Disused buildings are often sited on prime locations where perhaps new house building wouldn’t be entertained.
After cutting out the original wall to create a new entrance the aluminium framing was supplied by Senior Architectural Systems and glazed with Heat Soaked Toughened, Insulated Glass Units (IGU’s) by our Bristol glaziers, using a Toggle System. This system allows for a sleek, glass facade, finish to the building .
- The Toggle System – This system is requires the Double Glazed Unit (DGU) to be glazed with a channel fitted all around between the two panes of glass. A clip is then applied that is screwed to the outer aluminum frame which holds the glass in place before applying a structural silicone, sealing the edges of the DGU holding the two panels of glass in place and sealing the unit allowing the glass to be frameless with no cover caps in place.
Insulated Glass Unit Specifications:
- 8mm SKN 176 Heat Soaked Toughened – Outer pane
- 10mm Heat Soaked Toughened – Inner pane
Frames:
- Senior Architectural Aluminum SF52 System Curtain Walling
- Toggle Glazed System
- Doors – operated with Record Automatic operators
Cornwall Glass Bristol is located in Brislington in the South East of the city of Bristol. They are a leading specialist for commercial and residential aluminium glazing and services in and around Bristol, Bath, Gloucester and Swindon.

Blake Envelopes
When our Yeovil branch received a call from the main office at Blake Envelopes, reporting a vandal attack, which had initially taken out three but after a repeat attack a total of five Insulated Glass Units (IGU’s), they were quick to respond.
In situations like this, where the security of a property is compromised a quick response is essential to board up and secure the property before carrying out any structural repairs and required replacement IGU’s.
Cornwall Glass Yeovil attended site with specialist lifting equipment and replaced two large and three smaller IGU’s as part of the curtain walling, on the side elevation of the building.
Insulate Glass Unit Specifications:
- 6 mm Toughened Clear Glass – Outer pane
- 16 mm silver spacer bar
- 6mm Toughened Planitherm
