Help & Advice for using our Custom Design Tool

Our custom glass design tool has been crafted to make it as easy as possible for our users to get a price for their bespoke glazing, but we know that you might still have questions. Simply read on to find out exactly how to use this handy tool and then get started with your design.

To get started, simply select the shape that is closest to that which you are looking for. You can then select the glass type including thickness, style and colour. Adjust the dimensions to your exact requirements and add any extra features such as curved corners, drill holes and cut outs.

Please note that certain glass types have additional lead times and may have size restrictions due to the specialist nature of the product. Please find more specific information below.

Due to our toughening plant, we are only able to toughen glass sized between 200mm and 1700mm.  Please note only glass can be toughened, and not mirrored surfaces.

Please note that our stock sheets for ceramic stove/woodburner glass are only 1100 x 2000. Please do not order anything larger than these measurements as we will not be able to fulfill your request.

Please note that the following items will have a longer lead time:

  • 4mm Opal Etch – all varieties.
  • 10mm Green, 10mm Grey, 10mm Blue, 10mm Bronze, 10mm Opal Etch Waves
  • 12mm Low Iron

There can be an additional lead time of 10-15 working days for these items. Please bear this in mind when ordering.

If you want to change the measurement units that you are inputting (cm, mm or inches), then you can do this by clicking on the top box named ‘Dimensions’ and selecting the unit that you wish to use.

To change the size or dimensions of your design, simply click on the number which coincides to the side that you wish to adjust. A dialogue box will appear, allowing you to enter your desired size. The system will automatically prompt you to what is the minimum and maximum size you can select. Click ‘Save Value’ to register your edits.

If you wish to add ‘radius’ (curved) corners, simply click on the ‘3’ figure on the respective corner of the design. You will then be presented with a dialogue box where you can add your desired radius. The system will automatically prompt you to what is the minimum and maximum size you can select. Click ‘Save Value’ to register your edits. To remove the radius corner simply click on the radius figure and enter ‘3’ and ‘Save Value’ again.

Note: the radius corner is automatically set to 3 due to all glass having a very slight radius corner of 2-3 degrees.

To place drill holes onto your glass, please click the ‘Add Drill Holes’ Button on the menu bar. You will be prompted to add your drill hole diameter and whether you wish it to be countersunk.*

Upon clicking on the ‘Add Dill Holes’ button you will be able to move your mouse over the shape to position it. Click to place the hole. Another set of dimensions will appear, allowing you to place the drill holes precisely. All distances measure from the centre of the drill hole.

To move a drill hole, simply left click and drag it to another location. You can change the size by clicking on the diameter values.

Please note there are automatic safeguards within the system to prevent you from placing the drill hole too close to the edge of the glass or too close to another drill hole/cut out.

*Countersunk drill holes mean that a further angle will be cut into the glass. When a drill piece/screw is used, the head of the screw will be in-line with the glass, presenting a flat surface with no raises from the screw heads.

Rectangular cut outs allow you to fit your glass around items such as plug sockets. Whether you have a double or single socket, our cut outs are completely adjustable using our tool.

To add and place your cut-out, click the ‘Add Rectangle Cut Out’ Button on the menu bar. You will be prompted to add your width and height dimensions. When you click ‘Add Cut Out,’ move your mouse over the shape and you will see the cut out appear. Position it roughly where you would like it and click to place. You will now see another set of dimensions appear which you can click on to place it precisely. All distances are taken from the centre of the cut out.

Clicking and dragging the cut out will allow you to move it around, whilst you can change the size of cut out by clicking on the displayed value.

Please note there are automatic safeguards within the system to prevent you from placing the cut out too close to the edge of the glass or too close to another drill hole/cut out.

Adding a circular cut out to your design will allow you to fit it around items such as pipes and cat flaps. With our bespoke tool, you can alter the size and positioning of circular cut outs.

To add and place your cut-out, click the ‘Add Circle Cut Out’ Button on the menu bar.

If you are purchasing a shower screen, we normally recommend 10mm toughened glass, as this has the widest variety of fixings (hinges, handles, joining bars etc).

Please note that we do not stock fixings for shower screens at this time. If you require us to source fixings for shower screens, please contact us on 01726 66325 with a rough specification of what you require (glass thickness and size), and we will talk through your options.

If you are replacing an existing shower screen and already have fixings, we suggest that you purchase the same thickness glass that was used before.

To ascertain the size of shelf or fixing needed, you will need to measure the distance between shelf brackets. Please note that we cannot guarantee the performance of any shelves or fixings that we provide for any given purpose.
If you are in doubt that your shelf will hold the weight you require, we would suggest selecting a thicker glass and/or ordering additional shelf brackets. If you have any questions regarding glass shelves then please contact us on 01726 66325 and a member of our team will talk you through your requirements.

All of our products come with polished edges as standard. Polished edges have a smooth shiny finish in order to give your product a high-quality finish. It is also the safest way to handle glass.

Some products will offer ‘Bevelling’ as an option for the edgework of your product. This is an angle edge adding a decorative finish to your product. Not all items of glass and mirror will offer this option, due to the usage and thickness of the mirror and glass. The standard size of the bevel is 25mm.

Some products in our tool will give you the option to add surface processing.

Sandblasting gives your product a frosted glass effect to your glass. It is a process that is carried out in a machine where a grit medium fired on the surface of the glass to create a white/opal/frosted appearance. This is applied to one side of the glass, if you have opted for painted glass it will be sandblasted on the opposite side to the painted colour.

Easy Clean Coating is a clear treatment that is placed on the glass to achieve the cleaner effect. The treatment is not easily wet or stained, thus making the glass easier to clean. Easy Clean is perfect for shower screens and in areas that the glass is in a wet environment. You can either add the coating to one side of the glass or both sides.
